Description

Twenty-two years after its opening, the Oceanário de Lisboa has already received more than 25 million visitors. Considering its initiatives and successive achievements, the Oceanário is a national and international reference for ocean conservation, culture, leisure, entertainment and education. Every year, around one and a half million visitors visit its exhibitions, making it the most visited attraction in Portugal.

The impressive central aquarium, with around five million litres of water, represents the Global Ocean, housing more than one hundred species from four oceans. Around it, four marine habitats (North Atlantic, Antarctic, Temperate Pacific and Tropical Indian) are represented, creating the illusion of looking at a single aquarium, a single ocean. The visit takes place on two levels, terrestrial and underwater, crossing the temperate, tropical and cold waters of the different oceans of the planet.

In addition to the central aquarium, there are two other exhibitions:

- 'Forests Underwater' by Takashi Amano presents tropical forests and their aquatic systems through the world's largest and most amazing 'natural aquarium'.

- ONE - The Ocean as you never felt it" by Maya de Almeida Araújo is an art installation that portrays the deep connection between humans and the sea, while invoking the greatness of the ocean.
